    Red Speedo 5/14/2019 8:00 PM - 6/1/2019

    Written by Lucas Hnath

    MAY 14, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 1, 2019

Would you do anything to win an Olympic medal? What is the line in the high stakes world of modern sports? This is the dilemma posed in Red Speedo, a razor-sharp play about whether doping is acceptable in the pursuit of that elusive medal – and more importantly, when commercial endorsements are at stake.

This Off-Broadway hit by Lucas Hnath is about Ray – a young swimming phenom who has swum his way to the eve of the Olympic trials. If he makes the team, he’ll get a deal with Speedo, which means he’ll never need a real job. So when someone’s stash of performance-enhancing drugs is found in the locker room fridge, threatening the entire team’s Olympic fate, Ray has to crush the rumors or risk losing everything.

This edge-of-your-seat play is about survival of the fittest, and the American dream of a level playing field—or of leveling the field yourself. The New York Times called the play “a taut, incisive drama…the characters are palpably, at times movingly, human in their complexity and weakness. A bitter indictment of our winning-at-all-costs culture.” The production will also feature an onstage working pool, which will add interest and appeal.

    VFW Fishing Tournament 6/15/2019

Welcome to the 7th Annual VFW Fishing Tournament in Key West. This tournament, in its seventh year, is known up and down the Florida Keys as being a family event with cash prizes for the heaviest fish from five different species, individual angler cash prizes, and many great door prizes. The tournament is capped off by an awards barbeque at our newly refurbished VFW Post # 3911.

As in past years, all registered boats get four tournament t - shirts, however this year, anglers will have the option of getting "ladies cut' t-shirts for their lady anglers. Local artist, Jay Cheville has painted a portrait that will be featured on the shirts as well as the tournament flyer. The actual painting will be raffled off at the barbeque. We have added one angler prize category: Veteran Angler, which is for any angler that has served in the military, and is no longer on active duty, or in the active reserve. Due to popular demand, we have added a second " Calcutta “(Dolphin only). The "Calcuttas" which are completely optional, if entered, will allow one vessel to increase the tournament first prize of $3000.00 to well over $10,000.00 if both "Calcuttas “are entered.

Whether you are a returning angler, or new to the tournament scene, this is one event that you do not want to miss.

All proceeds benefit needy and disabled veterans. Help us help those that have given so much.
